Twenty inches of rain. Twenty yards of cars in line. Twenty minutes of pouring rain. All they can see is the pouring rain over the windshield. All they can hear is the rain smashing on the pavement and cars honking of cars.

Due to heavy rains from Tropical Storm Imelda, Clear Creek ISD shut down operations on Wednesday, September 18 and students attended school the next day, but were sent home due to weather conditions.

Parents, forced to leave work early, lined up in the parking lot to pick up their children. While upperclassmen drivers, struggled to get out of the parking lots, those who couldn’t drive found alternates, but others such as sophomore Hannah Graffagnino simply went home with friends.

“[My parents] were fine as long as I got home safely in time to get my sisters,” Graffagnino said.

Ultimately, the district provided buses for students, but students such as sophomore Hailey Currington waited up to an hour for buses to arrive at school.

The district released a formal statement of apology on Thursday and while students keep their fingers crossed for more school cancellations, school goes on.
