Season 31 of Dancing with the Stars premiered last week on Disney+ as a live series for the first time after 30 seasons on ABC. This year, the competition dance series featuring celebrities or “stars” partnered with professional dancers is being hosted by Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribeiro as well as being judged by Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough. Every week, typically with some type of theme like Grease Night, Disney Night, or Queen Night from past seasons, the dancers teach their partner how to dance the style they will be performing on the night of the competition. Most commonly performed are the jive, quickstep, cha-cha, foxtrot, salsa, Viennese waltz and more. Afterwards, the couple is scored out of ten by each of the judges which are then added up. Viewers can also vote for their favorite star by following a link or phone number provided on the screen. The scores are compared to the other teams and one star will then go home, slowly eliminating one team a week.

The stars this year include TikTok influencer Charli D’Amelio and her mom Heidi D’Amelio, singer Jordin Sparks, drag-race star Shangela, Selma Blair, Jessie James Decker, Sam Champion and many more.

Many of the beloved professional dancers that have been on the show for many seasons such as Val Chmerkovskiy, Sasha Faber and Cheryl Burke are continuing. And even though fan favorites, Lindsay Arnold, Sharna Burgess, and Jenna Johnson will not be participating this season, we’re excited to see what skills newcomer Koko Iwasaki is bringing to the table.
