JV Football Executes To Success

Although Friday night lights always have the spotlight, Thursdays have just as much heart and competition.

The Charger JV football team so far has had a successful season posting a record of 4-1 record. Lead by coaches Charles Moore and Jason Nelms, the team has racked up wins against La Porte (28-0), Clear Creek (14-0), Alvin (27-21), and Clear Falls (27-14).

“Our team is at its best when we do a good job running the football and when we play good run defense,” Moore said. The team prides itself in being a hard hitting, fast paced unit full of heart.

The team’s only loss was against Dickinson (12-14). “We had trouble covering the deep ball and on offense we struggled to pass the ball,” Moore said. The game came down to the last second as the Chargers scored a late touchdown but missed the two-point conversion.

The team has endured injuries as well as players moving up and down from the varsity. “Our team has done a really good job having a next man up mentality,” Moore said.  The next man up mindset is seen throughout the entire football program and is a big component to the Charger’s success.

“The defense should focus on lining up correctly and executing their calls, and the offense should focus on being on the same page with our blocking schemes and executing the plays that are called,” Moore said.

The Chargers have three games remaining and continue to improve as the season winds down
