Noah Carlin (11) and Will Byrne (12) won first place at Chargers Got Talent after performing a duet from the musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrel.”

“It was really fun, I was surprised we won.” Carlin said.  This was the first time performing on the Chargers Got Talent stage for Will, but not for Noah, who competed last year.

Other winners of second and third place were Lauren McGuire (12) who played the piano and sang “Feeling Good” by Michael Buble, and Chris Rogers (12) who played his electric guitar.

As an annual fundraiser for the senior class, Chargers Got Talent is a talent show for students performing song and dance acts, as well as things from slam poetry to comedy.

This year, both the senior and junior class officers performed.

“We did what we call a ‘mini me’ dance, where we wore big t-shirts and a partner played as our arms, and our own hands became our feet,” Lexi Poston, junior class parliamentarian, said. “It’s a little hard to describe the details, but it was a lot of fun for everyone.”

The senior class secretary, Chandler Deppisch (12) described what the officers of her class did.

“We performed a compilation of popular songs from each year of the 2000’s era, and we took turns dancing around in different costumes on stage,” Deppisch said.

Mrs. Candice Thibodeaux, English teacher and the senior class sponsor, organized the Chargers Got Talent show.

“Originally, it used to be ‘Seniors Got Talent’, but that first year we opened it to everybody, more people had the opportunity to be in it, which led to more people attending,” Thibodeaux said. “This year, we’ve made the most we’ve made, we’ve had the most numbers, made the most money and had the highest attendance.”

Each winner received a cash prize, and it was the most to ever be given away in this event, Thibodeaux said.
