Cheer Wins Nationals Four Years In a Row

This past weekend the Clear Springs cheerleaders won the title of national champions for the fourth year.

Ms. Kaylor Strayhorn is the cheer coach and an Algebra II teacher here at Springs. “I use to compete, and coaching is so much harder because there is no control over what happens on the floor. It’s very anxiety-ridden, there are lots of emotions and lots of tears.” Coach Strayhorn said.

“My favorite part about cheerleading is the teamwork because they really do depend on each other to do the job.” Strayhorn said.

There are a few members on the cheer team this year that have won at nationals three out of the four times; Devon Elder (11), Bethany Richner (11), and Sydney Matthews (12).

Devon Elder (11) has been doing cheer for five years now, three of those being on the charger teams.

“It’s pretty fun, but there are lots of emotions, like this is the last year I got to perform with some seniors.” Elder said.

There is plenty of effort put in to get down all of the routines before competition. “A lot of time is put in to everything we do, and it is a lot of practices for a two and a half minute routine.” Elder said.

Overall, the intermediate team achieved first place for best use of stunts and best use of tumbling as well as the novice team received best placing over all.
