Venom is a movie based on Marvel Comics’ Venom, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel. Venom takes a bold stand to try to not rely on the superhero. Premiering on October 5th, the Venom movie proved to be quite impressive on its own, with public opinion being rather high for it. Though, the development that took place in order to make the movie this way is somewhat of a complicated mess.

Sony was actively developing Venom in hopes of the character “adding length” to the franchise in a similar fashion to Wolverine in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men films. Jacob Estes had written a script for the film, but the studio was considering taking it in a different direction from that draft and was seeking new writers.

Through the reboot of Spiderman after the original producer had decided to give up on making these type of superhero movies, the idea of Venom being in a important character in the Spiderman universe was always a topic brought up. The overall use and popularity from both fans and comics gave motivation on making a movie such as this.

After the release of the movie however, Venom has grossed $102.8 million in the United States and Canada, and $127.2 million in other territories, for a total worldwide gross of $230 million on October 10th. Not only this, its reputation has increased tremendously, and the build up for the movie since 2017 to present day has been worth it.
