Astroworld Festival Transcends Houston

The biggest names in hip-hop took the stage this past weekend at NRG Stadium on the same grounds where Six Flags Astroworld once stood.

The Houston-hailing megastar rapper and producer Travis Scott hosted his second annual “Astroworld Festival” hosting over a dozen A-List names in music from Playboi Carti to Marilyn Manson.  With an estimated 70,000 in attendance, the event was one of the largest to take the city of Houston in recent years.

The gates opened – or rather forced open – by fans prior to noon on Saturday.  Openers Tay Keith and Sheck Wes were amongst the first acts welcoming the excited “ragers”.  NRG park opened into two main sets (the Thrills and Chills concert stages) and plenty of tents and attractions ranging from merchandise to the central Ferris wheel.

“The place was packed, there were so many people and it was this huge party atmosphere that was so much fun to be a part of,” said senior Ryan Kushner who attended the festival with close friends.

As the night went on, constant music blasted courtesy of Migos and other electrifying performances, encouraging raw mosh pits and onstage antics.  This all of course led up to the main event and festival host – Travis Scott.

Showing up thirty minutes late, introduced by comedian Dave Chappelle, and kicking off his set in Hannibal Lector fashion, Travis Scott fired up the crowd of 70,000 with the help of producer Mike Dean.

Bringing out artists such as Young Thug and Swae Lee to aid his performance, Scott capped off a transcendental experience with fan favorites such as “Butterfly Effect” and the radio hit “Sicko Mode”.

A surprise performance by Kanye West also stunned the crowd, and those in attendance experienced Houston’s own Astroworld Festival courtesy of Travis Scott.
