Following a shocking win in 2018 and disappointing loss in 2019, the Chargers finally brought down the Dickinson Gators 59-48 on Friday night.  This was the biggest game of the district, and it was quite a memorable night keeping everyone on the edge of their seat.  It was back and forth all game, but Springs pushed harder and ended the first half with the lead.  Dickinson put up a fight to get ahead, but Springs was not going to let them take the win.  Everyone was doing their best and you could tell how much they were working as a team compared to last year.  

“Two years ago, we had our backs against the wall, and we were losing 28-0 in the fourth quarter.  The difference this year is that we had our feet on the gas and didn’t have any intention of letting off,” Zaelyn Smith, a senior defensive tackle at Springs said on the win. 

Even with things being different this year, it did not affect how they played. However, the only thing that is out of a player’s control is getting quarantined.  Sadly, Cameron Reffells, the starting linebacker, was sent home just hours before the game. Going forward the boys are trying to be as careful as they can, so they play in the rest of districts and playoffs.  Overall, the team played their best even with people being out they did not let it get them down.  

“I felt our team played well, with our starting linebacker being quarantined we had to push through adversity and continue to be great,” Zaelyn Smith said.  “I’m really proud of my guys and our coaches wouldn’t want to be a part of any other team.”

We are all still pumped about last game and ready to play Clear Brook this Friday at Challenger.
