February 5, 2021
On February 1st, Netflix posted on Twitter letting the world know that a new animated series is coming. This time Netflix is featuring Sonic the Hedgehog and working with SEGA, the trademark holders of Sonic, WildBrain Studios, and Man Of Action Entertainment, a 3D animated series called Sonic Prime has been announced. The synopsis Netflix has released is:
“The 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the ‘Blue Blur’ of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.”
The series is currently in the very early stages of development. There is no news of who is going to voice act for each character, however, fans have already begun making their speculations and there is no released trailer just yet. Fans have very little knowledge of what will happen in this series, but theories have already been made. Netflix announced that the series will premiere in 2022.
While 2022 is still a bit of a way away, 2021 is the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. Announcing the news of a new animated series will let SEGA kickstart their Sonic the Hedgehog 30th anniversary games, merchandise, and other big news. SEGA has already released their 30th-anniversary Sonic Funko Pop! Vinyls. One classic running Sonic and one Silver the Hedgehog, which is already sold out.
