Banksy on a Rise

and Katie Hubbert

“Game Changer” is a piece by Banksy depicting a boy with a nurse superhero figure while his other toys are in the trash. This piece is currently hanging in Southampton general hospital, having been delivered to the hospital last May during the first wave of the pandemic. A reproduction will be made and will replace the original hanging in the hospital.

This piece will be auctioned off and all proceeds will be going to NHS charities. The piece will be hanging at Christie’s Auction House this week, until the 15th. On the evening of March 23, the selling will begin with an estimate of £2.5m-£3.5m.

Recently, Banksy has been creating many other pieces surrounding Covid-19. In December, “Aachoo!” popped up in Bristol. Showing an elderly lady sneezing out her dentures and pushing over a row of townhouses. Back in July, Bansky created coronavirus rats on the London Tube. The piece got scrubbed-off the next day and was never titled, but depicts multiple rats not wearing a mask. One rat is sneezing, one rat is using his mask as a parachute, and one rat is holding hand sanitizer.
