Time to Prep for Hurricane Season 2022

Angelina Balusek, Staff Writer

Weather experts are predicting that the 2022 Hurricane Season will be 120% above normal activity. Hurricane season, which starts June 1st, is forecasted to have anywhere from 16 to 20 named storms this season. A La Niña will be present this year, making storms more favorable for formation, with less vertical windshear present in the Atlantic.

In 2021, the Atlantic Hurricane Season consisted of 21 named storms with only 1 hitting Texas. Hurricane Nicholas hit Southeast Texas last fall which caused multiple schools to close due to flash flooding. The worst storm from last season was Hurricane Ida, which flooded areas all the way up north to New York. While last season was active, forecasters are predicting that this season will be worse.

Start preparing for hurricane season by buying flashlights, batteries, non-perishable foods, and water. Having an evacuation plan before the start of Hurricane season is essential, and always ensure that you have the necessary supplies in case your home is at risk during a storm.
