The 2022 VMA’s were filled with viral moments that nobody could have predicted. MTV’s annual Video Music Awards premiered on Sunday, August 28th and was hosted by Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow, and LL Cool J. This year the awards were held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey and included performances from mainstream artists such as Lizzo, Blackpink, Flo Milli, and more.

When it comes to the categories and their winners, there is no doubt that fans went out of their way to make sure their favorite artists got votes. Video of the Year went to Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” and she thanked actors Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brian for starring in the short film. Artist of the Year went to Bad Bunny, while Song of the Year went to Billie Ellish’s “Happier Than Ever”.

Taylor Swift took home the most awards with Video of the Year, Best Longform Video, and Best Direction. She surprised fans by an unexpected appearance at the show, and surprised them even more with her announcement of her new album “Midnights”, dropping October 21st.

Rapper Yung Gravy brought Addison Rae’s mother, Sheri Easterling, to the red carpet leaving the internet to question what their relationship is. Actor Johnny Depp appeared virtually for the first time since his court case to which he received little applause.

The VMAs are only the start of award season. The Emmys will take place September 12th and the Grammys nominations will be announced in November. Make sure to tune in to support your favorite artists.
