Fix Felix: Houston Humane Society offers free cat sterilizations

Lily Thivierge, Staff Writer

The Houston Humane Society is hosting an event for free cat sterilization. The Fix Felix program will be offering to spay and neuter cats for free on February 15th.

Spaying and neutering pets has become a common practice that comes with a lot of benefits. Getting a female animal spayed can help prevent uterine infections, breast tumors, and keep them from going into heat. Neutering a male animal will help prevent testicular cancer, aggression, marking territory, and mounting people and furniture. Animals who have been sterilized are less likely to leave home and the surgery is cheaper than raising a litter. Sterilizing animals will also keep the stray population down which means less animals would get euthanized.

The Houston Humane Society tries to offer sterilization at a more affordable price and cat spays and neuters are $80 and $70 respectively. People who are looking to attend will have to meet the eligibility requirements. Strays are not eligible.
