2023 Is Percy Jackson’s Year

2023 is Percy Jackson’s year. Four major projects have been announced already, but who’s to say more won’t be announced from author Rick Riordan within the coming months. Keep reading to prepare yourself for the new releases coming this year:

The Sword of Hades (January 2023)

The first drop of the year was the novella The Sword of Hades, which sets up another release later in the year: The Sun And The Star. The novella follows demigods Percy, Thalia, and Nico’s mini quest into the Underworld to retrieve Hades’ magical sword which has been stolen. On their journey, they encounter the titan Iapetus who Percy throws into the River Lethe. The river wipes the titan’s memory and Iapetus emerges not knowing who he is. The demigods rename him Bob and convince him to become their friend. This short story provides the backstory of Bob, who Nico and Will attempt to rescue in The Sun And The Star.

Disney+ Series Wraps Production (January 2023)

At the end of January, Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ will wrap their first season of filming after starting production in June of 2022. This does not mean the series is close to releasing! Disney must still edit and promote the series. As of now, the series is set to premiere somewhere around the start of 2024 or that summer.

The Sun And The Star (May 2023)

The Sun And The Star: A Nico Di Angelo Adventure follows Nico (Hades’ son) and his boyfriend Will (Apollo’s son) as they journey to the pits of Tarturus to save Bob the titan. In past books, Percy and Annabeth journeyed through Tarturus with the help of Bob, but ultimately left him while the two escaped. Nico has felt immense guilt for his titan companion, and has recently been having vivid nightmares of someone begging for his help from Tartarus. Can the dark and deadly Nico Di Angelo with the bright and sunny Will Solace make it out of Tartarus with Bob? Or will they have to leave something of equal value behind?

Chalice of the Gods (September 2023)

This book is the 6th addition to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, which hasn’t been touched since 2009. The iconic trio: Percy, Annabeth, and Grover go on a quest to receive a letter of recommendation from a god so that Percy can attend college in New Rome. We can only expect pure chaos and sarcasm from Percy Jackson himself as he narrates the novel.
