Kylie Jenner finally announced her son’s name on Instagram earlier this week, and needless to say everyone has their own heated opinions on her choice of name.

“I feel like it fits the name theme of her kids, but also I feel like it’s making her the shadow of her sister Stormi,” Lauren Brown (10) said. “I don’t like it,”

Aire Webster was born on 2/2/22, and was originally named “Wolf Webster” until Kylie suddenly announced that she would be changing his name. Social media influencers spent the majority of 2022 guessing the baby’s name, but nothing came close to what Kylie and Travis ultimately decided on.

Kylie and Travis aren’t the only celebrities with unique baby names. The rest of the Kardashians are known for their unique baby names. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm West which all remain controversial to the public. One of the other most opinionated baby names comes from Elon Musk and Grime who named their son X AE A-XII Musk.

“I like the names because they’re so outlandish and stupid in a good way,” Katie Grubbs (10) said. “Insanely rich people naming their kids something crazy is like a new episode of a TV show; it gives you something to look forward to and laugh at.”

“I think it’s really weird, but if it’s legal and makes them happy I guess it doesn’t really matter,” Benson Luong (10) said.

So, why do celebrities name their kids so uniquely? One reason is the clout, and how crazy names generate publicity for not only the parents, but the children too. The public are more likely to remember a “North West” than a Mason or Penelope.

Perhaps name choices are dependent on the parents’ true motives. Kourtney Kardashian-Barker is known for her protective nature of her children, and who has three children: Mason, Penelope, and Reign. Whereas her sister Kylie Jenner who is known for her social media publicity, named her two children names that she knew people would remember.

Whether you hate or love these baby names, we can all agree these unique names are a great publicity move. They gain attention, controversy, and chatter throughout the internet. Maybe some of these names will become more normalized as we progress through time.
