There’s no doubt that some of the most popular Disney movies are the live-action remakes, but when is too soon to remake a film? Disney recently announced they would be making a live-action movie of Moana which sparked controversy among fans.

Disney’s Moana was released in 2016, and not even seven years later Disney is re-doing it with the animated actors being in the live-action version. Dwayne Johnson and Auli’I Cravalho have already come out and declared they will be participating in the new movie that’s currently in development. “I love how diverse Disney is now and historically accurate. I believe making Moana into a live-action so soon is stupid because you can’t fix perfection,” Phil Rivera (12) said.

All past live-action movies have been of very old Disney classics, such as Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast, which both have climbed charts in popularity. However, will live-action revamps of recent movies take away the magic? “I think it’s drawing attention away from the originals and opening it up for more criticism. Moana is definitely too soon,” Sierra Watson (11) said.

Fans are excited about some of the new upcoming films, like The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and Wendy, and The Haunted Mansion. There’s something about old movies being refreshed that bring back nostalgia and magic. “It’s a hit or miss because sometimes Disney messes up the characters and plots of the revamps. You can’t fix something that’s not broken.” Holly Criswell (11) said.
