Met Gala 2023 Recap

Angelina Balusek, Editor

It’s that time of the year again where the public judges all the A-list celebrities who attend the Met Gala, with their extravagant outfits and makeup. The gala was held on May 1st with the theme of Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which was in honor of the late designer who passed away in 2019. The dress-code was to resemble classic fashions by the designer, such as Chanel, Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld, and more. Here’s some of the highlights from the event:

Rihanna & Offset

Rihanna rocked a Valentino white floral gown and her husband Offset wore a mis-match outfit of Bvlgari Jewelry. The couple brought another guest, with Rihanna being pregnant with her second baby!

Jenna Ortega

In her signature Wednesday style, Ortega wore a black corset around her waist and a ruffled skirt designed by Thom Browne. Her look added pearls and chains to tribute Karl  Lagerfeld’s signature look.

Pedro Pascal

The Last of Us and Mandalorian star wore a Valentino outfit, with lace up military boots, red vest, and shorts. While you may think this look wasn’t fashionable, fans were left fangirling over his appearance.

Doja Cat

Staying true to her name, Doja wore a tribute to Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette. She wore a long ruffled gown complete with cat ears, as well as a facial prosthetic that resembled an actual cat.

Olivia Rodrigo

Rodrigo wore a black & white floral ball gown designed by Thom Browne. Her hair was the highlight of the look, styled in a tight bun with microbangs.

Jared Leto

Similar to Doja’s approach, Leto tributed the designer’s beloved cat. However, he took it to the extreme by wearing a full blown cat suit to the gala.

Conan Gray

Matching with his bestie Olivia Rodrigo, the artist sported a black & white jumpsuit by Balmain, who Lagerfeld worked for early on in his career.

Bella Ramsey

Making a surprise appearance, The Last of Us star wore a black jumpsuit by Thom Browne with pearl designs.

Sydney Sweeny

Euphoria star Sydney Sweeny wore a tight pink ball gown with a black bow on the bottom with her hair in voluminous waves.

Maya Hawke

Sporting a white bridal look, the Stranger Things star wore a veil and all to the gala. “I have a feeling if I ever get married it will be in white cotton pajamas, so we thought why not put on a fancy white dress for once in your life?” Hawke said.

Ice Spice

Wearing a fitted Balmain white ball gown with nude stripes along the sides, Ice Spice walked the red carpet with a bejeweled camera in hand looking to take “some fire pics” of the night.
