Do you know if your favorite types of sea food are trying to kill you? Scientists discovered a type of bacteria called Vibrio vulnificus. It has already killed over a dozen of people across the USA in 2023. States like Florida, New York and Connecticut have already had multiple cases of death. The bacteria are mainly found in Florida due to 26 cases statewide this year.
Studies shows that there are multiple ways of avoiding this bacteria. You can avoid eating raw or undercooked seafood, but it has mainly been found in clams and oysters. The bacteria Vibrio has shown to be in warm water, salt water and brackish water around the Gulf of Mexico. However, it has been confirmed that if you were to be in these water with open flesh wounds you can potentially get this bacteria in your system.
Thankfully there are multiple ways to prevent this bacteria by covering open wounds when coming in contact with salt water, or any other type of water that it has been found in, and make sure you thoroughly clean your wounds after you have come into contact with any of the water it has been found in.
