
You cannot turn on Netflix without seeing a serial killer documentary and unfortunately Houston has many. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) serial killers are categorized as a person who kills several others (2-10 victims) they normally have a space of time between them and normally have lasting childhood trauma. With the hundreds of serial killers in the Houston area a few stand out.
Candyman
Dean Corll, also known as the Candyman who terrorized Houston from 1970-1973. Corll murdered and tortured at least 29 young boys aged 13-20. He would use candy and his family’s candy factory to lure and capture his victims. He was suspected of killing over 50 at the time of his death, he was shot 6 times trying to escape capture according to the HPD press release.
Acres homes killers
In 2006, multiple women were killed, and evidence shows that sexual crimes took place as well at acres homes. it was found to be the work of a man named La Marques Devon McWilliams, in 2011, he plead guilty, he killed six sex workers according to the HPD, but there are varying reports on their names, McWilliams is still in prison serving his life sentence but is eligible for parole according to the Houston chronicle.
The Sunday Morning Slasher
Carl “Coral” Eugene Watts was convicted of killing 22 women but was suspected of having a kill count of over 100 and suspected of much more petty and violent crimes. he was active from the early 50’s to late 80’s, he mostly focused on young white women between the ages of 14-44, but with MO, made him almost impossible to capture. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison in Texas, for his sexual crimes then given to Michigan authorities to serve his two life sentences in 2007. He ended up dying in prison.
These are just a few of the serial killer that terrorized the residents of Houston, and the surrounding areas. Most have been caught but there are a few who are still out there or died before they could live out their punishments.
