With the wave of a wand, Clear Springs Theater will be enchanting the audience with their rendition of a magical world. This week students will be putting on a play called ‘Puffs’. Some have described it as a knock off of the famous Harry Potter universe. Tickets are available for purchase on the Clear Springs Theater Instagram account.
Mr. Stonebarger, the director of the show, answered a few questions regarding the show. Stonebarger picks shows based on what other schools are doing, “We sometimes try to avoid it” Talking about how he wants to avoid doing the same show as another school. The last time Puffs was played in the area was at Bayside last year. Another factor he touches on is based on what kind of kids he has for the roles in the show. “You’ve gotta have an idea of ‘That person could do it’” then he talks about the idea that someone else could always do better than that person. Then he also talks about how he has to think about who the audience is. Is this show suitable?
Since the show is parody of Harry Potter, Stonebarger finds it very fun to see his cast make a joke of things that happened in that magical universe. He also talks about how his students make their own twist on things, “They sort of put their own twist on it because it’s focused on Hufflepuff, they weren’t a big part of the series like Gryffindor,” Then names off the parts that the series leaned more towards. Stonebarger also seems to enjoy the process of the show, “How we start with a page, and everyone is learning lines, it’s nice to get to the magic.”
Although he speaks very highly of the cast, he does talk about how there is a lot of new kids, most of them being lower classmen. “Kids that haven’t had major major roles with a ton of lines,” His only issue with this is when you’re getting kids from intermediate, they have to adapt to how these rehearsals will run. “You have to take it up on notch,” “How much we expect you to know things, we don’t always coddle, we spell it out because it is educational.” Overall, his biggest struggle is some of the kids getting use to this newer and more serious culture.
Stonebarger is very excited for his students to perform this show on stage for the audience. See you there!
