Water is an absolute necessity for life. If we ran out of water, there would be terrible consequences. If there is lead in the water, we drink what do you think would happen? Ingesting lead can cause a variety of issues some being reduced IQ, learning problems, behavioral issues, and hearing issues these problems are permanent, in some serious cases if you ingest too much of it can cause a coma or even death, there is no save level of lead exposure.
In Wayne County, Michigan, the town tested 31 homes with known lead service lines, 4 of which had levels above the 15 parts per billion which issued a township-wide alert. The 90th percentile for lead reached 21 parts per billion, in that round of testing, over the state action level of 15 parts per billion.
Wayne County town issued another set of testing that would test 60 households every month to get more data on the issue. The town just recently started a project to replace the lead service pipes. It identified over 160 homes with lead service lines that will be replaced this winter, the houses with higher levels of lead were among the first to get replaced.
The town is still working on securing funds for the future of this project as director Micheal Dennis said “it will be a multi-million-dollar overall project” Dennis also encouraged residents to call the water department and schedule to get their service lines inspected.
Recently, Houston ISD have found levels of lead in the water and has issued warnings for people in the schools in the area.
