It is a known fact that as teens grow, they start to enjoy the thrill of accomplishment and independence. Emily Grace, a senior at Clear Springs High School, has written and published her very own novel, River of Sorrows. A sizable accomplishment with what she has learned herself.
Described as, “suspenseful, eerie, and thrilling,” by Grace, the book follows the story of two high school boys. Felix, the main character, believes he is cursed because his family members always die on his birthday. This year Felix’ brother goes missing and with the help of Rigel, whose father is a private investigator, helps solve the mystery behind his disappearance.
Grace began working on this personal project in her freshman year. Emily talks about how taking creative writing with Ms. Bailey has helped the development with the book,” Emily also talks about the inspiration she got from another book, “One of us is lying” and then also talks about one of the characters, Rigel, “Rigel is loosely based on the main character in the show Grimm.”
Not only did Emily get help from her class, but she also got help with formatting and editing from her own Aunt Ashley, who is also a published author. Her own mother even helped with the book cover by taking a photo of Emily next to a bridge in Corsicana and adding on an ominous filter.
Even though the book is finished and available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon, Emily has plans to publish two more books to continue Felix and Rigel’s story. She will continue working on them while also attending the University of Houston at Clear Lake.
