With how chaotic this year has been, it’s never been more important to take a moment to breathe. Relaxing can be hard when every headline is spelling out doom for one reason or another. Hopefully, at least some of these tips will help you.
Stay off social media. I know, I don’t like it either. Unfortunately for all of us, it’s flooded with hot button issues and post electoral debate. Any release it would provide right now is drowned out. If you still feel the need to social media though, try to use an app that allows you to filter your content. Stay away from stressful discussions. Chances are, you’ve already heard more than enough.
Have something to look forward to. Make plans and get out of the house. Keeping busy is a great way to keep from worrying about things out of your control. Whether it’s going roller skating, visiting a zoo or aquarium, seeing a movie, or just hanging out with friends, a change in scenery can do wonders for your mental health.
Talk to people close to you. Going through intense emotions with someone else can help take the edge off. Even if nothing practically changes, it can still make you feel better. People who care about you will be happy to support you if you need it.
Finally, be kind to yourself. The alternative doesn’t do any good for anyone. The world might seem chaotic and scary, but for now all anyone can do is their best, whatever that might look like.
