As a junior, making my homecoming mum was one of the most fun and chaotic projects I have done. I spent around $140 on supplies —ribbons, flowers, backing, and everything else I needed to make it look amazing. It took me two full days to put it together, but seeing it come to life was totally worth it.
Since I took floral design in my sophomore year, I already knew the basics of making a mum, like arranging the flowers, layering the ribbons, making chains/braids, all while making it look full yet balanced. I used my previous knowledge to make the mum bigger than my mum last year.
By the time I finished, there was glitter everywhere. On my hands, table, floor, and probably even on my walls. But even with the mess, it was so satisfying to see the finished product. Even though it was exhausting at times to make, it was such a fun experience.
