The easiest way to remain safe on the road?
Follow the rules.
Road signs are there for a reason – go the posted speed limit, wear your seatbelt, and limit distractions such as your phone.
Another important tip is to anticipate dangerous situations and be able to evaluate them. You must always be looking around you, through your front and back windshields as well as your mirrors. Scan the road.
Be sure to check your blind spot; some vehicles can sneak behind you, and if you don’t check before switching lanes, you could hit them.
Remember, if a school bus has its red lights on and flashing, you must stop from both sides of the road and remain there until the lights are turned off.
Be sure to look for kids on the road. Many might run into the road unexpectedly, and if you aren’t paying attention, disaster could strike.
Don’t drink and drive. Not only is drinking as a teenager illegal but drinking while driving is even worse.
Don’t drive if you’re tired; it has the same effects as driving distracted or even drunk. It causes you to have a slower reaction time. If you really must, pull over, take a power nap, and then get back on the road.
The leading cause of death in teens is accidents.
Be safe. Drive smart.
