Chlamydia in koalas has been a huge problem for many years and there is no definite answer or a way to find out the origins of this problem, according to the American Sexual Health Organization. This disease has been a leading cause of death for many years. Chlamydia not only leads to death, but it can cause blindness and infertility.
In recent years the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia has been developing a field-use vaccine to reduce the spread of chlamydia. This vaccine is the first of its kind and is meant to reduce the infection rates and up the survival rates.
In 2022 the Australian Government listed koalas as an endangered species. With the recent completion of the field use vaccine for chlamydia in koalas; the developers are expecting the koala population increase.
