Golf is a game of patience, precision, and poise under pressure. For junior Margaret “Maggie” Kerr, golf is much more than that, “Golf is my life and my true passion”. Kerr fulfilled a lifelong dream of competing at the PURE insurance championship.
Kerr was one of just 32 girls across the nation to qualify for the First Tee Championship, held as part of the PURE Insurance Championship on the PGA Champions Tour. Competing at two of America’s most iconic courses: Spyglass Hill and Pebble Beach. Kerr faced the pressure of a lifetime and delivered.
Paired with professional golfer Steven Alker, she leaned on his mentorship throughout the week. “I don’t even think I can put it in words; life doesn’t feel real right now,” Kerr told Golf Wire. “I was so supported this week by not only my pro, but his caddie, his family – everybody.”
On Sunday, Kerr rallied with late birdies and clutch putts, securing a one-stroke victory and the title of overall champion. “That whole week was truly unbelievable and amazing…,” Kerr said. Coach Clark praised her resilience: “She was able to stay focused and adapt to the challenges she faced. I’m excited to see where she goes from here,” Coach Clark said.
Maggie Kerr has shown her determination and work ethic on and off the course balancing multiple jobs, excelling in school and now winning a national competition. Kerr has come far in her golfing journey with her talent, discipline, and determination; this championship may just be the beginning of her pro golfing career.
