Developed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), CCISD will be adopting the Bluebonnet curriculum that will be implemented from kindergarten through Algebra II beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. For high school students, this means updated coursework in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.
This curriculum underwent an extensive review process. Two committees, made up of primarily teachers, along with administrators and parents, evaluated multiple options. According to the district, Bluebonnet “aligns closely with CCISD Math Practices and instructional priorities while offering a comprehensive, fully supported math program.” After being selected, the curriculum went through additional review before being approved by the board on March 23rd.
CCISD will continue using Cambridge International Education as a framework for student learning, while Bluebonnet will act as the primary instructional tool. The district plans to purchase materials from Great Minds for elementary grades and Carnegie Learning for grades six through Algebra II, providing teachers with the best structured resources available.
Despite its approval, the curriculum has faced criticism. Concerns were raised about religious content in the English portion of Bluebonnet, though during the board meeting, the district clarified that Bluebonnet does not include any religious material in the math portion. Another issue involves more than 41,000 corrections reportedly being made to the curriculum. District officials responded that only minimal changes affect the math portion, mainly involving formatting and copyright adjustments.
Teachers also expressed concern that the curriculum appears scripted, potentially limiting flexibility in lesson planning. In response, the district emphasized that “teacher expertise and personality will bring the materials to life,” adding that lessons are intended to be “not… scripted, not standardized, but internalized, personalized, and rigorous, the CCISD way.”
Following the presentation and discussion, the district approved implementation of the Bluebonnet curriculum for the 2026-27 school year. While concerns remain, the district is confident that their adoption of Bluebonnet will be beneficial for all.
